What I’m Up To

It certainty has been a while since my last post and I thought it would be as good of a time as any to play a little catch up. I’m just a few weeks into my “Summer”, the time between spring and fall semester. I have one more year to finish up my course work for my Mechanical Engineering degree and am very excited to be moving on to something else in just under a year.

Yes, I’ll be sad to leave but it will be good for me to move on. In fact at the end of this past semester I finished my three year long tenure as a Resident Assistant. Those three years will always be very impactful memories, but every good thing must come to an end and I am happy to have a bit more free time come fall.

As for the Summer I have and internship at an Architecture Engineering firm here in Kalamazoo. The first few weeks with the firm have gone very well. I’ve worked on a few different projects and am learning as much as I can. The work has been challenging, interesting and, seeing how the company is run has been a great experience.

The company has a great philosophy and in June there is even a team building retreat planed. As part of that each employee completes a personality assessment, something we did with Orientation last summer and that proved to produce one of the most successful teams I have worked on. As well everyone reads “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni.

It was a quick read, finished it over the weekend, and really pulled the reader into the team building philosophy through a clever story line. I’d like to take some of the cues from the book and work them into team building exercises as part of my campus involvement.
